Etiology

  • Adhesions (MCC)
  • Hernias
  • Crohn
  • Intussusception
  • Volvulus
  • Neoplasms

Presentation

  • NAV
  • Obstipation
  • Severe crampy pain
  • bowel sounds

Diagnosis

  • Abdominal X ray
  • Abdominal CT

Additional Findings

  • WBC
  • Marked acidosis with lactate

Treatment

  • NPO
  • NG tube
  • IV fluids
  • Surgery if unstable, no improvement with above measures, or signs of strangulation (fever, tachycardia, ↑WBC, metabolic acidosis)
