Causes

  • Idiopathic
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Uremia
  • DM
  • MS, Parkinson’s
  • Pregnancy
  • Drugs (antidepressants, metoclopramide)

Diagnosis

  • Urge to move the legs
  • Unpleasant sensations in the legs or other body parts that worsen during inactivity and are relieved by movement.

Treatment

  • Supplement iron if ferritin <75
  • Supportive (massage, heating pads, exercise)
  • Dopamine agonists (pramipexole)
  • Alpha 2 delta calcium channel ligands (gabapentin enacarbil)
