Presentation

  • Children 3-10 years
  • Summer-fall
  • Fever
  • Pharyngitis
  • Gray vesicles/ulcers on tonsillar pillars and posterior oropharynx
  • Lesions of hands and feet
  • Self-limited

Differential diagnosis

Herpetic gingivostomatitis:

  • HSV-1
  • Younger children
  • No seasonality
  • Clusters of small vesicles on anterior oropharynx/lips
  • Erythematous gingiva
