High risk contact definition

  • Exposure of a mucous membrane, non-intact skin or percutaneous exposure.
  • Blood, semen, vaginal secretions, or body fluids with visible blood.

Protocol

  1. Establish baseline serologic status
    • Repeat at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months
  2. Initiate 3-drug regimen urgently
    • Two NRTIs plus
    • Integrase inhibitor, PI or NNRTI
    • Ex: Tenofovir, emtricitabine, raltegravir
  3. Continue for 28 days
